Weekend Shot Clock Thoughts: 10/9/16

October 9, 2016

By Stephan Philyaw

24. I’ve gotta say, Jimmer Fredette had quite an unimpressive 30+ points against the Rockets. May be on the Shanghai Sharks for awhile.

23. Rockets actually have some good chemistry. Unfortunately, it’s the same system, different name.

Time Out. Corey Brewer’s pet goat Billy died (18) last year???Rockets vs Sharks

22. Impressed with commentators for pronouncing Chinese names in the Rockets/Shanghai game. Wouldn’t mind having them for the Olympics over the Rio commentators.

21. Jabari Parker not impressive in the off-season/preseason. His best skill is sneaking in for some offensive rebounds, maybe a jumper here or there. I don’t expect him to finish at the rim 7 out of 10 times. Ever since the USA Select Team, I’ve seen him turn the ball over way too much.

20. The Bucks searching for an identity… Still. Jabari Parker has the chance to standout now that Khris Middleton is out.

19. Teletovic and Beasely will help the Bucks more than I thought. Teletovic is surprisingly more versatile than most people expect. I didn’t even realize how much he uses the pump fake to get to the basket.

18. Stagger Westbrook and Oladipo. A dynamic scorer and playmaker in the game at all times. Those two are going to have to drag this team to the playoffs.

17. Jamal Murray will be solid for the Nuggets. I’m expecting a Devin Booker-sized leap in skill level next year.

16. Brandon Jennings looks more comfortable at the PG position than Derrick Rose probably ever will again.

Time Out. ALL of the Plumlee brothers have stupid bounce! 3 now in the league.

15. Knicks best play is probably Porzingis going downhill off of two high picks at the top of the key, giving Melo the decision to either shoot or pass from the shoulder of the 3pt line.

14. Don’t know if there was a time when NY/(NJ-Brooklyn)/Sixers weren’t in the playoffs consecutive years. That makes for a ton of disappointed basketball fans. Not looking good for that Atlantic Division.

13. Pistons lost to the Nets though… Not enough gas in the tank for Motor City. Have gotta be better defensively. Nets shouldn’t even reach 100 against a team like the Pistons.

12. Pacers didn’t seem to have too many defensive issues in their 2nd game against the Bulls. D. Wade was just better. Best play-making Bulls have seen in years.

11. I’ve spoken about Butler’s necessity to hit 3’s. But man, if Wade is shooting 3’s off of the dribble too?! Bulls offense is going to be WIDE open. Everybody knows he specializes in the mid-range game.

10. Oh, and Wade is a professional leaker on the fast break. Like, the guy that leaks out down court in the 2nd or 3rd game of pick-up ball… SO ANNOYING to play against.

9. Poor Hornets are going to have to find themselves again. Tough task, but I think the 7th and 8th spots are pretty open in the Eastern Conference.

8. Right now I feel like the LAkers are Hornets West. Some good pieces, searching for identity, will be competitive, but doubtful to make the playoffs.

7. Highlight for my LAkers is that shots are getting spread around and they’re actually playing some decent defense this year.

6. I love JC coming off the bench for the LAkers. It’s about balance!… :cough cough: Byron Scott!

5. And so the injuries begin for the Jazz with a Gordan Hayward broken finger. I tried to tell y’all! Ever since Coach Sloan left, they’ve never been the same.

4. The Suns and Jazz will battle for wins to try to creep into the 8th.New Orleans Pelicans

3. I’m convinced, Pelicans will be back this year. May not make the playoffs, but will be very competitive. The Anthony Davis-Buddy Heild tandem will be exciting to watch. I knew Buddy played both sides of the ball, but I was impressed with what he did against James Harden.

2. Prayers to Jrue Holiday and his family. A good man doing the right thing for his family!… Money aside.

1. The new CBA is close to being done. Best news for the fans AND the league! Excited to find out what developments will be made.
